Simon Rodrigo Toral-Contreras, a Mexican citizen last known to live in Waterbury, has been sentenced in New Haven district court to five months in prison, time already served, for illegally reentering the United States after being deported.
In May last year, Toral-Contreras was arrested by officers from the Waterbury Police Department for misdemeanor offenses, U.S. Attorney John Durham said. He was deported back to Mexico the following month. In August, Toral-Contreras encountered U.S. Border Patrol officers in Brownsville, Texas, and he was subsequently charged, convicted of illegal entry and deported to Mexico.
Durham said that on Oct. 10 last year, Toral-Contreras was again arrested by the Waterbury Police Department and charged with felony drug offenses. On Jan. 17, he pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of reentry of a removed alien.
On March 29, Toral-Contreras pleaded guilty in state court to the operation of a drug factory and possession with intent to sell a narcotic drug, Durham said. Toral-Contreras was sentenced to three years of imprisonment, which has been suspended.
