Many Still Without Power After Strong Storms Rip Through Fairfield County

Hundreds in Connecticut are still without power following a spate of strong thunderstorms that struck the area.

As of 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 375 of Eversource’s customers were still without power, while 424 of United Illuminating customers were reporting outages.

On Monday, more than 5,000 outages were reported throughout Connecticut.

In Fairfield County, outages were still reported in Brookfield, Fairfield, Greenwich, Monroe, Newtown, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Shelton, Straton, Weston, and Westport.

Gusty winds, rain, thunder and lightning rocked the region during the storm, including a lightning strike that caused a house fire in Norwalk that left a firefighter injured and left a family temporarily displaced. That incident remains under investigation.

According to the National Weather Service, an approaching cold front will bring the risk for more rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon. The cold front is then expected to move through later in the weak breaking the recent heat and humidity.
