DARIEN, Conn. - Here are some of the stories that topped the news in Darien last week:

  • Darien police located and identified a woman who offered children puppies as they walked home from school on Middlesex Road. She was a dog breeder from New York, and although her behavior seemed suspicious, no charges were filed. 
  • Eliane Mullen, 39, of Greenwich was arrested and charged with hosting a party for teenagers, complete with alcohol and condoms in Easton.
  • Stamford Taxi driver Mahomed Kamal, 47, was found stabbed to death on Doolittle Road on Wednesday morning in the city. Another Stamford man was arrested Wednesday evening on murder charges after a police chase through downtown.
  • The U.S. 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the police departments in Easton, Darien, Wilton, Monroe and Trumbull can be sued over a 2008 police drug raid at a home in Easton that left a Norwalk man Gonzalo Guizan, 33, dead and the homeowner Ronald Terebesi injured.
  • Darien ranked third among the eight Fairfield County towns that placed among the Top 10 safest places to live in Connecticut, according to Safe Choice Security. 
  • Debit cards and cash were stolen from the office of the Darien Chamber of Commerce.
  • Fans of artisan breads, pastries and cakes have a new option in town after SoNo Baking Company opened up a new shop at 49 Tokeneke Road in Darien, the third for the local baking chain.
