DARIEN, Conn. – Darien spa owner Nusrat Rizvi waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of filing a false tax return, according to the office of Deirdre Daly, U.S District Attorney for Connecticut.
Rizvi, 75, owner of Lanphier Day Spa Inc., admitted to failing to report $144,776 of income from 2008-10 and depositing the cash into his personal bank accounts.
Sentencing was scheduled for Jan.14, 2016, at which time Rizvi faces a maximum term of imprisonment of three years and a fine of up to $250,000. As part of his guilty plea, he has agreed to pay $50,485 in back taxes and $37,862 in penalties.
