Every year Opus raises money to send children from neighboring communities to summer camp. In conjunction with this fundraising program, OPUS also hosts an annual picnic for those children who benefit from the campership scholarships.

With the volunteer help of 23 OPUS Members, the afternoon turned out to be very special for 44 lucky children.

The campers, ages 5 to 9 and all donning their light blue Camp T-shirts, enjoyed a lunch from Cowabunga Food Truck before spending the afternoon participating in numerous kid- approved activities.

The afternoon was three hours of pure excitement and joy for both volunteers and campers alike, while campers jumped around in bounce houses, tried their hand at an array of different arts and crafts, and participated in a magic show led by Amazing Andy.

"The Campership Picnic is one of OPUS’s favorite events of the year. It’s a great pleasure to spend time with the children who benefit from Balloon Day, watching them smile, and seeing what a difference the camp experience has in their lives. It makes the efforts of all our volunteers truly worthwhile," said Anika Charron, OPUS Co-President.

The campers who attended the Campership Program were from Roscco, a school and summer vacation camp located in Stamford.

Roscco helps provide children with classes ranging from drama and cooking to science and outdoor sports, while providing two meals for campers and extended-day programming for those families who need it most.

OPUS’s Balloon Day, which raised $84,000 this year, sent 480 kids to summer camp and OPUS is proud that its fundraising efforts provided the opportunity for local children to participate in this excellent program.

The Campership Picnic ended with a visit from the ice cream truck, and everyone chose their favorite cool treat.

Children's laughter filled the bus back home and OPUS hopes that this day of happiness remains with each camper until next summer.
