DARIEN, Conn. – Registration for the Darien Children’s Library summer reading club, “Lights, Camera, Action!” for children up to 12 year of age is now open.

The library offers two summer reading options for children: one for pre-readers and one for solo readers. Pre-readers age 5 and under are welcome to join the Read-to-Me Club and for every 10 books they read with an adult, they will receive a free book (up to three).

Independent readers up to age 12 are invited to join the summer reading club. Participants in the summer reading club will receive a reading log to record their minutes spent reading over the summer, and every five hours of reading will earn them a raffle ticket for the grand prize raffle.

All children will receive a new free book just for registering. Latin Grammy-nominated musician Mister G will perform at the library’s Summer Reading Kick-Off Concert for ages 2 to 7 Friday, June 19 from 1-1:45 p.m.

The library’s “Finale Party on the Red Carpet” for the summer reading club is slated for Monday, Aug. 17 from 6-7:30 p.m. Summer reading club participants are invited to the library for live music, raffle prizes, food and photo-ops. The winner of the grand prize raffle will be announced.

Registration for this event begins Monday, Aug. 3.

Additionally, readers may also participate in weekly creative challenges on the library’s website to win prizes. New challenges will be posted every Monday starting June 8 and run through Monday, Aug. 10.
