On Saturday, Aug. 22, will be the annual "Concert Under The Stars” program, rain or shine, by the Darien Community Band. Our a la carte grill opens at 6 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m. in Harding’s Hootch, our outdoor pavilion. People may bring their own chairs.

The following Saturday, Aug. 29, marks the return of "A Night Out with Art and Vito," an exciting pair of guitar-wielding rock vocalists playing numerous songs. This is their third visit, also rain or shine. Grill opens again at 6 p.m., and the boys start playing at 7:30 p.m.

Post headquarters are housed in the original Chapel of Fitch’s Home for Soldiers and Their Orphans, the first veterans’ home of the U.S., built right here in Darien, just after the Civil War. As it is in dire need of repair, we have embarked on an ambitious plan to renovate our building to make it a more welcoming gathering place for veterans, the Darien community at large, and future generations of Americans.

On March 11, the Chapel was listed on the State Register of Historic Places by the Connecticut Historic Preservation Council. Donations are welcome and tax-deductible, and they will go to a worthy cause: preserving the Chapel for the town. If you can’t attend but wish to donate it can be sent to Darien VFW Post 6933, PO Box 2172, Darien, CT 06820.
