Police Officer Kenneth Bateman was shot and killed on May 31, 1981, after spotting someone leaving the Duchess Patio Restaurant in Darien near the Norwalk border. He was waiting on backup when gunfire erupted, and a shootout began.

Bateman died of his injuries. Authorities offered a $100,000 reward for information that leads to a conviction of the person responsible for the break-in and Bateman's death. Now, police are offering another $50,000 payday for anyone who can help investigators find the gun used in the slaying.

"We urge anyone with credible information about the firearm to come forward, as your assistance is crucial in bringing justice to Officer Bateman's family and holding those responsible for his death accountable," Darien police said in a Friday, April 11, news release.

Anyone with information and wants to capture those rewards should call Darien detectives at 203-662-5330. All tipsters will be kept confidential.
