Here's Time Frame For Quick-Moving Round Of Storms Sweeping Through Region

A strong cold front moving through the region is bringing showers and thunderstorms, some of which are severe with gusty winds, lightning, thunder, and heavy downpours on Thursday, Sept. 22.

"An isolated strong to severe thunderstorm is possible with the main threat being strong to damaging winds," the National Weather Service said in a Hazardous Weather Service.

Thunderstorm activity, which began around daybreak, should wrap up by noontime on Thursday, with scattered showers continuing through the mid-afternoon.

Thursday's high temperature will remain steady in the upper 60s.

Then comes a big change in the weather pattern as skies clear starting late Thursday afternoon and the fall equinox arrives at 9:04 p.m. Thursday in the Northern Hemisphere.

The first full day of fall on Friday, Sept. 23, almost on cue, will be noticeably cooler with a high temperature in the low 60s and mostly sunny skies.

It will be blustery with wind speeds averaging around 15 miles per hour and gusts as high as 30 mph.
