Varsity, JV Doubles Teams Will Compete At 11th Annual Autumn Classic In Norwalk

Norwalk Grassroots Tennis & Education will host the 11th annual Autumn Classic Tennis Tournament for high-school age doubles teams on Sunday, Sept. 30. 

All NGTE programs are free and the program boasts the highest ranking from the U.S. Tennis Association for excellence in academic and tennis programming for 2017-18.

The tournament will be played at Longshore Club Park in Westport and Weston Field Club. Boys and girls teams are invited to register for the tournament, which benefits Norwalk Grassroots Tennis & Education.

The Autumn Classic begins at 9 a.m. and includes breakfast, lunch, trophies and gift bags for participants. Players can also compete in the “fastest serve” contest. Athletes can register for varsity or junior varsity competitions. Supporters can also sponsor players. 

Laurel Road Bank is the lead sponsor for the event. Avison Young, a commercial real estate services firm, has supported the event since opening its Norwalk office in 2014. Sean Cahill, Principal, Managing Director of Avison Young in Norwalk, is a member of the Norwalk Grassroots Tennis & Education Board of Directors.

Norwalk Grassroots Tennis was established in 1996 with the mission to build the strength of character and a foundation for success for underserved youth through tennis and education. The group’s goal is to ensure its children are on a path toward success on the court, in the classroom and in life.

All programs hosted by NGTE are free. It provides services to children ages 5 to 18 who qualify for free and reduced-price lunch in order to reach kids who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to participate in high-quality after school, summer or weekend programming.

NGTE received the highest ranking from the U.S. Tennis Association for excellence in academic and tennis programming for 2017-18, as 100 percent of its seniors graduated high school and rose to the next grade level in school.
