DANBURY, Conn. - Students at Danbury's Pembroke Elementary School used their creativity and culinary skills to make healthy, after-school snacks in Sodexo’s 2015 Future Chefs Challenge on Thursday.
The national initiative, which is in its fifth year, was created to get students thinking about how to make healthy food choices while also encouraging them to get active and creative in the kitchen.
Pembroke students are joining over 2,500 students representing over 1,000 school sites in 29 states nationally in this fun and educational challenge.
Students submitted healthy, after-school snack recipes. The three best were selected to participate in Thursday's championship cook-off finals.
Fifth-grader Taylor Bryan was the top winner with her "Oatmeal Treat."
Fourth-grader Elisabeth Duffelmeyer came in second with her "Strawberry Yogurt Crunch."
Connor Luk placed third with his "Turkey Wrap with Pineapple Apple Salsa."
