DANBURY, Conn. -- Former state Rep. David Scribner has endorsed Republican candidate Stephen Harding to replace him as the representative for the General Assembly's 107th District in Danbury, Brookfield and Bethel.

Scribner, a Republican, stepped aside in January to take a position with the state Department of Consumer Protection, triggering a special election that will be held Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Running in the race for the seat are Harding, a Republican member of the Brookfield Board of Education, and Democrat Howard Lasser, a former member of the Brookfield Board of Education.

"It has been my distinct honor and privilege to serve the people of the 107th District as state representative for 16 years," Scribner said. "Now the people of Brookfield, Bethel and Danbury have a unique opportunity to elect a new state representative with tremendous energy and enthusiasm to serve as their new state representative.

"Steve Harding will represent a new voice of leadership that is sorely needed in Hartford -- one that exercises civility, respect and a nonpartisan approach to solving the problems facing our communities and our state. I enthusiastically endorse Steve to serve as our next state representative, and I hope district residents will also support him in Tuesday's special election."

Harding was grateful for the endorsement.

"David Scribner has been an inspiring public servant who has given his all to the people of the 107th District," said Harding. "His service is an incredible example of selfless dedication to all the people he has represented and I intend to do my best to emulate it. Earning his endorsement is especially meaningful to me, and I thank him for his generous words of support.

"I have been honored to be able to sit down with him during the course of this campaign to discuss the many issues facing our community and our state. I am hoping the people f this district will give me the opportunity to carry on in his excellent tradition."

Harding has said that he plans to focus on the economy and jobs, and that he will pursue a pro-business, pro-growth agenda.

He is a nearly lifelong resident of the district who graduated from Brookfield High School and Albertus Magnus College. He received his J.D. from the New York School of Law and is currently in private practice in Danbury. In addition to the Brookfield Board of Education, he is also active in youth sports programs.

Harding has also received the endorsement of Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton, state Sen. Clark Chapin of New Milford, and state Rep. Dan Carter of Danbury.
