After two debates, the race for governor continues to be close, according to a new poll of registered Connecticut voters.

If the governor's election was held today, who would you vote for?

  • Bob Stefanowski
  • Ned Lamont
  • Another candidate
  • Undecided

The election is on Nov. 6.

The latest Sacred Heart University/Hearst Connecticut Media Group Poll found Democrat Ned Lamont of Greenwich leading Republican Bob Stefanowski of Madison by about 6 percentage points.

The telephone survey of 501 likely voters between Sept. 12 and 17 indicates a slight increase over the 4 percent lead Lamont held shortly after the Aug. 14 Democratic Party primary.

Lamont has 43.1 percent to Stefanowski’s 36.9 percent, the new poll found. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percent, meaning the race could still be considered a tossup.

The results of last month''s poll by the Sacred Heart University Institute for Public Policy were reported here by Daily Voice.

The new poll identified a large gender gap with more than half of women voters expressing their support for Lamont.

Voters identifying themselves as not enrolled in either major party favor Stefanowski, while more than 16 percent of voters are undecided.  “Someone else” got 3.8 percent of the vote.
