Television crime sleuth Chris Hansen of “To Catch a Predator" fame has been arrested for allegedly bouncing several checks for money owed to a promotional company.

The former Stamford resident, was arrested Monday for failing to pay for $13,000 worth of promotional materials he ordered to promote his show from a local vendor, said Stamford Police Sgt. Sean Scanlan.

According to police, Hansen was arrested after ordering $12,998.05 worth of goods from Promotional Sales LImited of Summer Street, in September 2017, and then bouncing several checks in an attempt to pay for the coffee mugs, T-shirts, and decals.

After the checks bounced, the owner of the company filed a complaint with Stamford Police, who after an investigation, attempted to speak with Hanson in order to clear the matter up, Scanlan said.

"He said he would come but never showed up," Scanlan said.

The department received a warrant for his arrest about a month ago but had trouble getting him to come in. He finally turned himself in on Monday, he added.

Hansen, 59, was charged with issuing a bad check and for failing to pay the $13,000. Scanlan says Hansen was released after signing a written promise to appear in court.

“To Catch a Predator," which was canceled in 2008, was a news show that used a hidden camera to "catch" men who had been lured by decoys online to meet underage children.
