Suspect Nabbed After Shots Fired Through Wall Of CT Home

A Connecticut man has been charged with allegedly firing shots from his apartment into the apartment next door.

The incident took place in West Hartford on Friday, July 22 on Hillcrest Avenue.

West Hartford Police responded to the area of Hillcrest Avenue for a report of projectiles entering an apartment causing wall damage, said West Hartford Assistant Chief of Police Lawrence A.Terra.

Officers attempted to make contact with the resident of the neighboring apartment but the resident barricaded themself in their apartment and refused to speak with the police, Terra said.

An investigation found that the projectiles were bullets fired through the wall of the apartment of Richard Budnick, age 34, of West Hartford, the chief said.

There were no reported injuries.

On Monday, July 25, Budnick was arrested by a warrant in connection with the incident.

He was charged with:

  • Illegal discharge of a firearm 
  • Reckless endangerment 
  • Criminal mischief 

Budnick was held on a $20,000 surety bond pending his arraignment Tuesday, July 26.
