The incident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, June 16 on northbound I-95  near Exit 22 in Fairfield when the trooper, Gregory Sawicki, was pulled over in the median with his emergency lights activated to assist a disabled vehicle, said Tanya Compagnone, state police public information officer.

A passing car in the left lane then struck the cruiser, which caused it to be pushed into the disabled vehicle, Compagnone said.

The trooper, who had to be extricated, was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Three others involved in the crash and were taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center for minor injuries.

The crash is under investigation and any witnesses are asked to contact police at 203-696-2500.
