Retired Teacher Dies After Jumping From I-95 Overpass In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — A man died after either falling or jumping off the I-95 overpass at Exit 9 in Stamford on Wednesday morning, State Police said.

There is no criminal aspect to the case, State Police said as they continue to investigate. The man was not identified.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. during the morning rush hour, State police said.

The overpass carries East Main Street over I-95. The incident happened near Exit 9 northbound.

The victim was taken to Stamford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, State Police said.

The CT Post identified the man as Sal Buchetto, a retired eighth-grade science at Cloonan Middle School teacher known for his hands-on science experiments.

Buchetto taught for 38 years before retiring in 2010. He held an annual egg-drop experiment with his students in which they created a device to keep an egg from breaking after being dropped from a fire truck ladder.
