At about 11:39 p.m. Sunday, Danbury officers broke up a verbal argument between the two men at Elm Street and Main Street, police said.
According to the husband, his wife was entering their Main Street home when the other man came up behind her, grabbed her purse and ran, police said.
The husband chased the second man, later identified as Matthew Brundage, 32, of Redding, and caught him before the argument, police said.
When the officer went to arrest Brundage, he took took off again on foot, police said. After a brief chase, he was taken into custody, police said.
Brundage was charged with third-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, interfering with the duties of a police officer and breach of peace. He was held on $5,000 bond. No court date has been set.
