Connecticut State Police troopers busted an out-of-state man with an illegal handgun following an alleged road-rage incident involving a child.

Troopers received an emergency call at approximately 11:09 p.m. on Friday, June 11 from a driver reporting a road-rage incident involving a driver with a gun on I-95 near exit 34 in Milford.

According to police, they located the driver’s blue Hyundai driving southbound on I-95 past exit 24, at which point a traffic stop was conducted in the I-95 Fairfield Rest Area.

During the subsequent stop, troopers found that the driver, Warner Robins, Georgia resident Dariel Michael Phillip Pope had a loaded Ruger .22 caliber magazine in his right pocket.

Further investigation found that Pope had a Ruger 22 Charger pistol in the back of his vehicle with one round in the chamber and a 25-round dual magazine containing 23 and 16 rounds.

The weapons and magazines were seized during the stop.

Pope, 23, was charged with:

  • Possession of large-capacity magazines;
  • Weapons in a vehicle;
  • Risk of injury to a minor;
  • Reckless endangerment;
  • Breach of peace;
