New Canaan Police were dispatched to the Mead Park Brick Barn on the report of someone inside of the building with a flashlight.

The building, which is owned by the Town of New Canaan, is abandoned and closed to the public. Police say there is a sign on the outside that states that the building will soon be demolished.

Upon further investigation, officers determined that all exterior doors were locked. They subsequently gave a verbal warning instructing anybody inside the building to come out.

At this point, 55-year-old Timothy Camper exited the building through the front door.

A search of the building showed a non-working toilet with human waste, a makeshift bed, bags of food, garbage and cigarette butts.

Camper told police that he had been residing in the building for about a month.

Camper was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing. He was unable to post his $250 bond and is scheduled to return to court on Thursday, March 14.
