The nearly 2-year-old boy, now identified as Lucas Richard McGee, was hit around 8:42 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the home on North Wilton Road, said New Canaan Police Lt. Jason Ferraro. The boy's date of birth is Dec. 31, 2017.
New Canaan Police, along with New Canaan Fire, and New Canaan Emergency Medical Services first responders arrived at the residence within minutes of the incident to provide emergency medical care, Ferraro said.
The gravely injured boy was transported to Norwalk Hospital, where emergency room personnel provided care.
"Despite the valiant efforts of many first responders, and emergency room personnel, the child succumbed to grave injuries," Ferraro said.
The incident remains under investigation by the New Canaan Police Accident Reconstruction team as well as members of the Wilton and Darien police departments Accident Reconstruction teams.
"We ask that the entire New Canaan Community put this child and the child’s family in their thoughts and prayers," Ferraro said. "We are all grieving as we cope with this tragic loss."
Further details regarding the incident are being withheld out of respect to the family's privacy, New Canaan Police said.
