A Greenwich woman was charged with fleeing the scene after police say she crashed into a parked car in Darien.

Layli Harandi, 39, of Greenwich turned herself in to Darien Police on Tuesday, Sept. 10 and was faces several charges based on a July hit-and-run incident, according to police.

Police say they received a report that the driver of a white Kia sedan had struck a legally parked vehicle on Ledge Road around 12 a.m. on Monday, July 22.

The man that reported the incident told police that as he approached the sedan, a woman later identified as Harandi exited the vehicle and stated that she would “take care of the problem.”

The man allegedly stated that Harandi’s breath smelled of alcohol and that she repeatedly grabbed his hand and begged him not to call the police.

Police say Harandi left the scene prior to officers’ arrival. They allegedly received a call later on from her attorney, who stated that she would not be making any statements and that her vehicle was currently unregistered.

Police say they were granted a warrant for Harandi’s arrest that included charged for evading responsibility, failure to drive in the proper lane and failure to insure a motor vehicle.

In these types of incidents, police say they are unable to charge the suspect for DUI because they cannot testify that they personally observed the suspect show signs of intoxication and are unable to give the opportunity for the appropriate on-scene field testing.

After turning herself in, Harandi was processed and released on a $500 cash bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Sept. 20.
