Davis Ramos, 34, of Danbury and formerly of Carmel, was arrested after he accidentally shot and killed Jason Hoffman, 33, of Brewster, on Wednesday, Sept. 4, according to court documents obtained by Patch.

Right after the shooting, Gabrielle Rega, Ramos' girlfriend, told police that the three were getting high on crack cocaine when Ramos pulled out his handgun to look at and did not realize that the safety was not on and the gun "went off," court documents said.

That story is different from the original story Rega told officers which was that Hoffman was killed by someone he had gotten into a fight with earlier that day.

Ramos has been charged with first-degree manslaughter, possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to keep prescription medicine in the original container, and interfering with a police officer.

He remains in jail on $25,000 bond.
