Gloria "Galya" Greenberg, 69, of West Hartford, was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 30, after Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers detected a firearm in her fanny pack when it went through the X-ray machine and notified Connecticut State Police, officials said.
TSA officials said a .9mm firearm with a chambered round was found during a search.
Greenberg was charged with circumventing airport security and was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond, State Police said.
Greenberg served as a teacher and administrator of Solomon Schechter Day School in West Hartford from 1985 to 2009, particularly as the principal of the middle school.
According to her LinkedIn page, Greenberg worked as a community educator with the Chai Mitzvah Project, and later as an educational constant at the Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation Emek Shalom in Simsbury. Greenberg spent nine years as the MaTok Bible Project director, her LinkedIn page shows.
She was given a court date of Wednesday, Dec. 14, police reported.
“Our TSA officers once again prove why they are vital to airport security,” said William Csontos, TSA’s Federal Security director for Connecticut. “Passengers who are traveling with firearms need to ensure they declare them with the airline and that they are properly packed in their checked baggage.”
