Danbury Man Arrested After Police Find 6 Pounds Of Pot At Post Office

DANBURY, Conn. - Danbury officers were called to the Post Office on Wednesday after workers reported a package that smelled strongly of marijuana, police said. 

When officers arrived at the post office, they determined that the package contained about 6 pounds of marijuana, police said. The marijuana had a street value of more than $20,000, police said.

With the help of the postal service, detectives obtained a search-and-seizure warrant for a house on Stevens Street, police said. Shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday, officers located the intended recipient of the package, Orlando Ellis, 23, of Danbury, police said.

At the house, officers found more marijuana, a scale and packaging materials, police said. Officers also found 180 pills of Oxycodone, with a street value of $3,600, police said. 

Police charged Ellis with possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of public housing, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell over 1 kilogram, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of public housing.

Ellis was held on $100,000 bond. No court date was provided by police.
