At about 7 a.m. Tuesday, Danbury officers were dispatched to a car accident with injuries at the intersection of Lake Ave Extension and Segar Street, police said.
Officers determined that Robert Taveras, 29, of Danbury was driving east on Lake Ave Extension when he turned left onto the I-84 ramp and struck another vehicle, police said.
The other driver, who was heading west on Lake Avenue Extension had the solid green light, police said.
That adult male driver and his adult passenger were transported to Danbury Hospital with minor injuries, police said.
Before the officers arrived, Taveras took off on foot and was apprehended about 2 miles away, police said.
Taveras, who also goes by Ronald, was taken into custody and charged with evading responsibility/physical injury, operation of a motor vehicle under suspension, and failure to yield while turning left.
He was released on $5,000 bond and is due to appear at Danbury Superior Court on Dec. 18.
