Neighbors had complained to police that they suspected the couple, who had several children at home, were drug dealers, police said. According to police reports, investigators "detected activity consistent with drug trafficking" based on surveillance of the residence and other investigative techniques.
Members of the Danbury Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID) executed a search and seizure warrant Nov. 11 at 15 Lois St. Police said just prior to the search, they stopped Saquan McCrea, 40, a resident of the house, engaging in a suspected drug sale on North Street in Danbury.
During the search of the residence, police said assorted narcotics, controlled substances and several thousand dollars were seized. Melonie McCrea, 33, the wife of Saquan McCrea, was home at the time with several children, according to police.
Both Saquan and Melonie McCrea were arrested and charged with several counts of drug-related offenses, including possession with intent to distribute and risk of injury to a child, according to police. Saquan McCrea was released on summonses pending a court appearance. Melonie McCrea was released on $2,500 bail pending a court appearance.
