According to police, a complaint has been filed against Coventry Police Sgt. Michael Hicks, who has been accused of sending the inappropriate messages in 2012 and 2013, the department confirmed. The girl is now an adult and no criminal charges have been filed, but an internal investigation has been launched.

The complaint was reportedly filed in September last year. Connecticut State Police has conducted a criminal investigation that is ongoing, though the Tolland State’s Attorney’s Office closed the case.

Hicks’ alleged victim, Amber Soucier, told NBC Connecticut that the reported the alleged messages when she found Facebook conversations with Hicks from years ago.

“In a more mature mindset reading them, I was so disgusted and in disbelief and I was reading the way that I was responding and I felt bad for the 15-year-old girl that you know, just didn’t get it,” she said.

Hicks has been on administrative leave since Oct. 1 last year, the department stated. He will remain on leave until the probe is concluded.

“We take these allegations very seriously and will conduct a complete and thorough investigation into this matter,” Coventry Police Chief Mark Palmer said in a statement.
