DANBURY, Conn. – Raymond H. Varian, a Danbury native, died Jan. 10. He was 74.
Born June 20, 1938, in Danbury, he was the son of Frank and Louise Fournier Varian. He raised his children on Varian Drive in Danbury and worked as a design engineer for Heli-Coil of Danbury.
During his career, Varian was awarded several patents for his designs. He enjoyed music and was a talented musician, his family said. He played piano, organ, keyboard, accordion and banjo.
He enjoyed painting landscape scenes with acrylics. A life member of the Danbury Railroad Museum, Varian was a model train enthusiast.
He and his wife of 52 years, Veronica, moved to The Villages, Fla., from Danbury in 2008. He was part of the Matisse-Niks neighborhood group that played cards and golf.
Varian is survived by his wife; two daughters, Veronica L. Tyrell, of Danbury, and Doreen V. (Peter) Sa, of Bartlett, Ill.; a brother, Francis "Skip" (Barbara) Varian, of Georgia; three grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Green Funeral Home in Danbury, with visitation an hour prior to the start of the services. Burial will follow at Wooster Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in The Villages at a later date.
