Mary 'Mytel' Matera, 104, Totowa Resident

TOTOWA, N.J. -- Mary "Mytel" Ferrazzano Matera, of Totowa, died on March 24. She was 104.

Born in Paterson, Matera moved to East Paterson after she married and raised her family there. She was a member of St. Leo's Church.

"She was a devoted homemaker and stay-at-home mom for many years before returning to her glamorous job at Alexander's Department Store in Route 4 in Paramus," information from the funeral home noted. "She worked there until the store closed." 

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Lombardi, and Maryann and her husband Joseph Royce Sr.; grandchildren Michele and her husband Fred Mongelli, Christopher Royce, Joseph and Carol Royce, Michael Lombardi, Tina Vartalone and her husband Joseph, and Carla Lombardi; and seven great-grandchildren.

Matera was preceded by her husband of over half a century, Samuel "Blackie" Matera. 

Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, at the Patrick J. Conte Funeral Home, 274 Market St., in Elmwood Park. The funeral will be at 9 a.m. on Monday from the funeral home, with a 10 a.m. funeral mass at St. Leo's Church, in Elmwood Park. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, in Paterson.
