DANBURY, Conn. - Manuel Alves of Portugal, formerly of Danbury, died March 18. He was 84.
Alves was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Central Castanheira de Pera, Portugal, he was the son of Diamantino and Palmira Alves. He had been a resident of Danbury since 1966, and was employed as a mason working in the construction industry throughout the greater Danbury area. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and a member of both the Sons of Portugal Club and the Portuguese American Club in Danbury.
Alves is survived by his daughter, Ann M. McEwan (Peter) of Danbury; brothers, Victor Alves and Jose Alves both of Danbury; sisters, Sofia Antonio of Palm Coast Fla., and Manuela Lourenco of Portugal; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and wife, Piedade (Bernardo) Alves.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 27 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Danbury. Burial will be in Saint Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
