The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Putnam residents regarding the residency of 51-year-old Alex Amoroso, who has moved to a residence on Sodom Road in Brewster

Members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s office, armed with a search warrant, conducted a search of the Putnam Valley home of Alex Amoroso and seized multiple electronic devices on April 19 last year. The investigators continued the investigation and on May 18, Amoroso was arrested on an arrest warrant when he exited his residence.

The investigation was conducted by members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation into the online sharing of images and videos of child sexual abuse material.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Amoroso as a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a predicate sex offender.

Amoroso was initially charged with eight counts of possessing obscene sexual performance by a child and eight counts of promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child, both felonies, when he was arrested. He was convicted of promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child under the age of 17 in July last year and sentenced to six months in jail and 10 years probation. Amoroso is now under the jurisdiction of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
