Job Center Offers January Workshops In Danbury

DANBURY, Conn. — The Connecticut Department of Labor and the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board have scheduled a series of training and employment workshops in January to aid Danbury residents.

A networking group is scheduled to meet on Jan. 6 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., where the benefits of networking within a local group of job seekers will be discussed.

Workforce Investment Act (WIA) information sessions are also scheduled for Jan. 6 and 20, including the process and eligibility requirements to receive funding for training through WIA. Both sessions are scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m.

Those interested in a health and life science career can attend an orientation on Jan. 29, where local community college programs are discussed from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Long-term unemployed job seekers with some college credits may find the H1B technical skills training orientation session on Jan. 8 helpful.

The eligibility requirements and potential opportunities for mid-level skills training in IT, health care and advanced manufacturing are discussed from 1 to 3 p.m.

Connecticut Department of Labor Veterans’ Representative Kelvin Johnson will be available to meet with residents as well. Johnson is open for appointments on Jan. 7, 14, 21 and 28. Email him at kelvin.johnson@ct.gov or call 203-455-2711 to set up an appointment.

A workshop on interviewing techniques is set for Jan. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a workshop on creating a LinkedIn profile is on Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and a resume workshop is scheduled for Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All events are held at the Danbury American Job Center on 171 Main St. or the Danbury Public Library on 170 Main St. Call the Waterbury American Job Center at 203-437-3380 to register. Advance registration is preferred due to limited space.
