The Norwalk School District announced that there was a confirmed COVID-19 case at Silvermine Elementary School late on Thursday, Oct. 22, prompting it to shut down the school on Friday, Oct. 23 to allow for contact tracing and for crews to sanitize the building.

Students and staff in kindergarten through third grade will be on full remote learning on Friday. Students and staff in fourth and fifth grades will report to the Jefferson campus.

School officials said that the district has been in contact with Silvermine Elementary families and anyone who may have been exposed has been alerted and is expected to enter a temporary quarantine.

Classes are expected to resume normally on Monday, Oct. 26.
