Cooling Centers Open For Danbury Residents

DANBURY, Conn. - With the forecast for extreme heat, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton has announced that a cooling center will be open Tuesday through Thursday in the city.

The cooling center will be an air-conditioned Hart Bus at 198 Main St. from noon to 4 p.m. Pedestrians or residents who do not have access to cooling systems, or who are without power, are welcome to use the cooling site.

The Danbury’s Health and Human Services Department have the following tips to prevent citizens from becoming victims of the heat:

  • Drink plenty of water;
  • Avoid strenuous activities;
  • Take frequent rests by cooling down in an air-conditioned location;
  • Wear light, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing;
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine;
  • Eat lightly throughout the day;
  • Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or long periods in the sun; and
  • Call 911 at the first signs of heat related illness such as dry, red spotted skin, mental confusion, a body temperature at or over 105 degrees, dizziness, weakness, fatigue, headache or nausea.
