DANBURY, Conn. -- Want to record an album or a voiceover demo?

Think you can't afford it? It's free if you have a Danbury Library card, said Aurelio Muraca of the library's Technology Center where Studio 170 is located in the second-floor children's library.

The studio cost $18,000, and was built and funded by the Friends of the Danbury Library,  he said.

Reservations are now available for up to three-hour sessions in the studio. Users must be at least 17 with a valid ID and library card and take an orientation class.

The ideas to have a recording studio came from library director Katie Ventura, Muraca said. It supports the library's vision to foster creativity, discovery, and personal growth.

In addition to individual use, Studio 170 gives local organizations an opportunity to create community projects.

Appointments are available Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesdays from 1:30 to 6 p.m.; Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

The recording sessions can be reserved in 30-minute increments, with the maximum session length of three hours. Users are allowed two per month.

"The first class will start the beginning of Teen Tech Week, March 22 to 29," said Muraca.
