Virtually all commuters have found themselves caught in rush hour traffic at some point or another, but Business Insider compiled a list of 50 areas that have the worst commute times based on data from the 2017 American Community Survey.

According to the report, those who have long commutes to and from work tend to pay more for gas, get less sleep, have more fat and even report lower levels of happiness than people with shorter commutes.

Cities from all over the country have made the list, including the Greater Bridgeport and Greater New Haven areas.

With an average commute time of 31.6 minutes, the Greater Bridgeport is said to have the eighth longest commute in the country. But according to the report, commute times could “substantially improve” if Interstate 95 was widened.

Further down the list at number 49 is the Greater New Haven area, which has an average commute time of 25.4 minutes. A major reason for the longer travel times involves a lack of infrastructure, the report says.

“Despite spending millions of dollars on improving the area, including new train cars, a new rail line, and a completely redesigned highway interchange, the area's transportation infrastructure is still failing to meet the needs of the city,” says Business Insider.
