DANBURY, Conn. --The Danbury Library will participate in the third annual “Take Your Child to the Library Day” on Saturday, Feb. 7, starting at 11 a.m.
Musician Jay Mankita will kick things off with an interactive music performance in the Junior Department. Families are invited to come and attend the program.
“We are encouraging parents to bring their children to the library to enjoy the music and participate in crafts and some other fun activities, and everyone, whether adult or child, can sign up to get their free Danbury Library card,” said Cindy Lappala, children’s programmer. “And, each child will receive a free book, courtesy of Reading is Fundamental and Macy’s.”
Additionally, to encourage reading, parents of children under 5 years old can sign up their children for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, where children will be mailed a free book up until their 5th birthday.
For those who are already registered for the Imagination Library and receiving books, parents can bring some of their gently-used books to swap with other participants.
Registration information will also be available for parents to sign up for the “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” literacy program. If families have been participating in the program, they can bring in their reading lists and participate in an awards ceremony at noon with their child. All programs are free of charge.
Registration is required online at danburylibrary.org, click on events, or call the Junior Department at 203-797-4528. For more information, contact Cindy Lappala at 203-797-4528.
