DANBURY, Conn. -- If your child loves books and reading, then you will want to take part in the annual "Take Your Child to the Library Day" at the Danbury Library on Saturday, Feb. 6.

In its fifth year, the special day is aimed at raising community awareness about the importance of the library in the life of a child, and promotes library services and programs for children and families.

“This year, the Danbury Library’s participation will provide two very entertaining programs; one involves robots and the other involves mime,” said Cindy Lappala, Danbury Library children’s programmer.

From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., library visitors ages six and older can learn to program actual robots in the “Dash and Dot Robot Rally” conducted by ambassadors from the Connecticut Science Center Youth and Library Teen Innovation Program. Participants must bring along an Apple or Android device to participate. Pre-registration is not required.

The second program offered from 2 to 3 p.m., will be a returning performer to the Library, master mime and comedy artist, Robert Rivest.

“Robert has performed here in the past and families loved him, so we're bringing him back for this special day," said Lappala. "In his performance, Rivest reveals the 'hidden treasures' of reading and comically illustrates the joys of reading every day."

In addition to enjoying one or both of the programs, the library is encouraging all residents to come and get a library card if they don't already have one, and for everyone to take this opportunity to learn about the many new services and programs the library offers.

Registration is encouraged for the Robert Rivest program online at, click on "Events" or call 203-797-4528. The Danbury Library is located at 170 Main St.
