DANBURY, Conn. -- Cultural Alliance's @287 Gallery & Meeting Place in Danbury will hold a special event featuring a 'walk and talk' with abstract artist Robert L. Ferrucci, beginning Saturday, Feb. 28, from 1 to 4 p.m.

"Variations" will run through Friday, April 10. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and also by appointment.

Brewster artist Robert L. Ferrucci's mixed media works, along with sculptures by Anthony Masina, are featured in the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut's current show "Variations." Specializing in Abstract Action Art, Drip Art, and Contemporary American Folk Art, Ferrucci will demonstrate his painting skills while encouraging dialogue about what he does, why he does it, and what makes a painting "work."

The event is free and light refreshments will be served. To register, visit and search for "Bob Ferrucci ~ Painting Demonstration." Ferrucci's Abstract Expressionist paintings, on the one hand, are filled with emotion, with colors ranging from muted to bright, full to splashing. Most of the work is mixed media with layers upon layers of tinting. On the other hand, his landscapes -- simple settings of barn and field and country road -- have a childlike appeal and a feeling of fantasy.

The complementary styles require the use of both acrylic oils and oil pastels. Ferrucci’s stylized barns and love for the farms and fields will never change but his intensity about his abstract work is very strong. "I see it from a spiritual, personal growth perspective," he said.

The paintings of the abstract work as well as the landscapes have taken a turn to a stronger pallet, richer colors and bolder shapes and forms. Ferrucci always puts part of himself in his painting, as influenced by 55 years of formal education, a lifetime of painting experience and enthusiastic experimentation. "We are pleased and honored that Bob has offered to 'jump off the wall' for an afternoon that's sure to spark the creativity in all of us," said Cultural Alliance Executive Director Lisa Scails.
