Caraluzzi’s Markets, based in Bethel, announced a recall of its 8-ounce Italian Style Seafood Burgers due to the presence of undeclared egg, a known allergen.

The product was sold at all four store locations in Fairfield County: Bethel, Wilton, Newtown and Danbury.

People with an egg allergy or severe sensitivity are at risk of a serious or potentially life-threatening reaction if they consume the mislabeled burgers, the US Food and Drug Administration said in a notice published Tuesday, April 8.

The affected product was sold between Feb. 18 and April 2, 2025, and comes in clear 8-ounce packaging with a blue overwrap label. Each package includes an expiration date of 01/16/2026 printed on the back and a UPC of 0-95864-80008-8.

The recall was launched after a consumer filed a complaint, which led to an internal investigation. That review confirmed that a batch of seafood burgers containing egg had been distributed without listing the allergen on the label.

One allergic reaction has been reported in connection to the product, officials said.

The mislabeled item has since been removed from store shelves. Customers who bought the product can return it to any Caraluzzi’s location for a full refund.

Those with questions can contact the company at 203-748-3547, by email at customerservice@caraluzzis.com, or visit the customer service desk at any Caraluzzi’s store.
