A New Canaan woman is facing DUI charges after police say she was pulled over for failing to stay in the proper lane.

New Canaan Police say they observed a motorist fail to stay in the proper lane when traveling on Smith Ridge Road on Saturday, May 18 around 9 p.m.

A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver, identified as Afina Etergino, 51, of New Canaan, was displaying signs of impairment, according to police.

Etergino was asked to participate in a series of field sobriety tests, which police say she did not pass.

Etergino was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing. She was charged with failure to drive in the proper lane and illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs.

Etergino was released after posting $250 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, May 28.
