A man was killed during a two-vehicle head-on crash near the Monroe/Easton border over the weekend.

The crash took place around 5:33 p.m., Sunday,  July 14, on Route 59 in the area of 757 Stepney Road, said Easton Police Chief Timothy Shaw.

When officers arrived on the scene they found multiple injured victims in both vehicles, he said.

Members of the Easton Fire Department deployed their hydraulic extrication tools in an effort to assist in getting the occupants out of the vehicles for necessary medical assistance.

Multiple EMS units assisted on scene due to the amount of injured. Victims of the accident were transported to both St. Vincent’s Hospital and Bridgeport Hospital.

The driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene, the chief said.

The State of Connecticut Medical Examiners office was called to the scene to investigate the cause of death.

The Southern Fairfield County Traffic Unit was called to assist with the investigation.

"At this time there will not be any information in regards to the identity of the deceased or the other injured victims," Shaw said.

Easton officers along with the Monroe Police Department, Easton Fire Department, and Monroe Fire Department assisted at the scene.
