First responders were dispatched to a stretch of the parkway at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, when the westbound crash involving a 2015 Infinity sedan was reported in Islip, state police said. The crash temporarily caused police investigators to close down westbound lanes near exit 41A.

The sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed before the driver lost control and struck a tree in the center median, police said.

As a result of the crash the driver Ismael Jefferson 22 of Hempstead, and two passengers Tony Porter, 22, of Westbury, and Ja-Asia Hasty, 19, of Hempstead, all succumbed to their injuries, state police announced on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The fourth passenger Ty-Jeneyah Cruz, 21, of Hempstead was injured and hospitalized.
