Stephen Figueroa, 29, of Shelton, was charged with first-degree sexual assault, Shelton Police announced on Saturday, July 20.

The arrest stems from an incident that occurred on Saturday, June 29 where Figueroa was arrested for domestic violence. Further investigation revealed that Figueroa sexually assaulted the same victim from that night, police said. An arrest warrant was subsequently applied for and granted.

Figueroa was given a Derby Superior court date of July 22 and released on a $75,000.00 bond.

Figueroa was arrested June 29 after the woman came to police headquarters and reported she had been involved in a domestic incident with Figueroa, Shelton Police said.

The woman told officers that she went over to Figueroa’s apartment in Shelton at around 4 a.m. to retrieve some personal property, according to police

The two argued when Figueroa would not return the property or allow her to leave the apartment, police said.

During the fight, a 2-month-old baby was present, police said.

After the victim filed the complaint, officers made contact with Figueroa, who was placed under arrest and charged with disorderly conduct, assault, threatening, unlawful restraint, and risk of injury to a minor.

After that arrest, Figueroa posted a $150,000 bond and appeared in Derby Superior court on Monday, July 1. During proceedings, the judge issued a protective order for the officer to have no contact with his girlfriend.

Bridgeport Police Chief Perez put Figueroa on administrative leave after learning of the alleged domestic violence incident in Shelton, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police.

Perez said that he will assign a full and thorough internal investigation by Bridgeport's Office of Internal Affairs, Jones added.

Figueroa was also arrested last year in an incident involving a different woman. The charges were later dropped after completing a family violence program.

He was also arrested in 2017, for criminal mischief and disorderly conduct after allegedly breaking the window of a former girlfriend's car during a fight with the woman.

Those charges were also dropped after the woman refused to cooperate.
