Severely Injured Woman Pulled From Compactor At CT Supermarket

A possible thief at a Connecticut supermarket suffered severe injuries after being trapped inside a store compactor, police said.

The New London Emergency Communications Center received a call at approximately 3:19 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, reporting a person that was injured inside the compactor at NSA Supermarket on South Frontage Road in New London.

According to police, emergency service personnel were dispatched to the scene, where they located a woman - later identified as New London resident Angela Dotolo, 41 - who was severely injured.

Police said “it was apparent" that Dotolo had been inside the compactor during its operation for a period of time.  Dotolo, who is not a store employee, was removed from the compactor and transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, where she is in critical condition as of Friday, June 21.

Police noted that Dotolo is suspected of stealing from the store prior to the incident in the compactor. According to Connecticut State records online, Dotolo has been convicted and spent time behind bars for resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and later failing to appear in court.

The New London County States Attorney’s Office and OSHA were notified and the police investigation is ongoing.
