A federal grand jury in Bridgeport has returned a six-count indictment charging Lynwood Cogdell, 32, of Bridgeport, with firearms and narcotics offenses,” U.S. Attorney John Durham announced. Cogdell has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

On May 1, 2015, Cogdell pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of possessing a firearm by a convicted felon. On March 15, 2016, he was sentenced to 36 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He was released from federal prison in June last year.

It is alleged that on Aug. 10 last year, while still on supervised release, Cogdell was in possession of heroin, which he intended to distribute, along with a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol.

It is further alleged that, on April 15, Cogdell possessed heroin and fentanyl, which he intended to distribute, and a different .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol. He was arrested that day and has been detained since.

Cogdell was charged with two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, two counts of possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. If convicted, Cogdell will face decades in prison when he is sentenced.
