The crash took place in Stamford around 2 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 on Washington Boulevard.

Michael Talbot, age 25, of Greenwich, was arrested on a warrant by the Collier County Sherriff’s Office in Florida while visiting family on Thursday, Jan. 5, said Sgt. Jeffrey Booth, of the Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad.

Killed in the hit-and-run crash were Yuliana Arias-Lozano and Giovani Vega-Benis, both 25, as they left their jobs at Cantina Mexicana on Summer Street, police said.

Police said the two victims were in the crosswalk when Talbot, driving a 2022 Mercedes hit the two at an alleged high speed which sent the victims flying from the southbound lanes to the northbound lanes.

Talbot ran from the scene and hid behind a dumpster before being found by police, authorities said at the time of the crash.

He was not charged at the time of the crash pending an investigation, police said.

Following an in-depth investigation, a warrant was completed by Officers Kerilyn Whitehead and Lindsey Yanicky and signed by Stamford Superior Court Judge Hudock on Wednesday, Jan. 4, Booth said.

The warrant carries the following charges:

  • Two counts of manslaughter
  • Two counts of manslaughter with a motor vehicle
  • Two counts of felony evading responsibility
  • Operating under the influence
  • Reckless operation

The warrant also carries a $ 1 million court-set bond, Booth said.

"As soon as the warrant was signed, the Stamford Police Department began efforts to take Talbot into custody," Booth added.

It was learned on Thursday that Talbot was in Florida visiting family. With the assistance of the Collier County Sherriff’s Office, he was taken into custody and will be held in Florida until he waives extradition and can be transported back to Stamford, Booth said.
