Despite the significant safety improvements being made in regards to automotive technology, the death toll for intersection accidents is on the rise.

Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that there has been a shocking 27 percent increase in intersection fatalities since 2010. Between 2010 and 2017, an average of 24 people died each day in traffic accidents that occurred in intersections nationwide.

Connecticut’s intersection fatality rate is 3.67 deaths per 1,000 miles of road, putting the state significantly higher than the national average of 2.45 deaths, according to a study from AutoInsurance.org.

In total, Connecticut ranked ninth in intersection fatalities in the country.
