Matthew Perez, 21, of Bridgeport, was arrested shortly after the crash and admitted to police that he fled following a hit-and-run in West Haven on Wednesday, March 5, Connecticut State Police said.

Multiple 911 callers reported the crash near Exit 43 around 6:30 a.m., telling dispatchers that a driver was swerving through traffic at dangerous speeds before hitting another vehicle, police said.

The other driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Troopers quickly tracked Perez to his home, where he confessed to the hit-and-run and admitted he did not have a driver’s license, State Police said.

He was arrested and charged with evading responsibility, reckless driving, driving without a license, and reckless use of a highway by a pedestrian, authorities said.

Perez was released after posting a $2,000 bond, authorities said.
